His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari hails from Daura, Katsina State and can be described as one of the most charismatic and popular politicians from Northern Nigeria.
This is owing to the fact that he has a strong appeal in the North, and is a remarkable political brand that has revolutionized the socio-political landscape of Nigeria in the fourth republic. Buhari joined the Nigerian Army at age 19, by enrolling at the Military Training College in 1961.
Muhammadu Buhari was appointed the Federal Commissioner for Petroleum and Natural Resources in 1976, by General Olusegun Obasanjo (then Military Head of State) during the period; the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation was established. It was under his watch that the framework for the evolution and development of the petroleum industry and infrastructure in Nigeria was laid
Another remarkable moment in his career was when he led the Nigerian military to crush Chadian forces that invaded Borno State in 1983. He successfully chased them back to Chadian territory and defended the nation.
President Buhari won the elections with a commitment to tackle corruption, tackle unemployment and tackle insecurity. As President the deadly Boko Haram have been decimated in the North-East, but are now resorting to unconventional ways of attacking troops and people in the area.
In the area of security, the Buhari administration has faced the challenge of a new dimension of terrorism that is unconventional and has also grappled with agitations from the various regions in the country. Described as a man of Integrity, patriot and firm believer in Nigeria’s unity, President Buhari was recently honored by the African Union and given the task of championing the Anti-Corruption crusade in Africa. He is a Grand Commander of the Federal Republic and also a recipient of the Nigerian Centenary Award of Leadership and Service.
