CEPEJ COLLABORATES WITH PIND TO INAUGURATE P4P SUB-CHAPTER IN BENIN RIVER, WARRI NORTH LGA OF DELTA STATE

In line with its mandate to promote sustainable peace,
effective security and environmental best practices in the Niger Delta Region,
the Center for Peace & Environmental Justice, CEPEJ, has organised and
facilitated peacebuilding and early warning signs training for Opuama and
Gbokoda communities in Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State funded
by the Partnership Initiatives for Niger Delta Development, PIND.
The National Coordinator/CEO of Center for Peace and
Environmental Justice, Comrade Sheriff Mulade, represented by CEPEJ’s Programs
Manager, Samuel Ideh thanked PIND for the financial support and the two
communities for their total cooperation towards making the training a reality.
As a result of the training and to ensure the sustainability
of the program, CEPEJ collaborated with P4P to establish a Network Sector for communities
in Benin River of Warri North LGA, Delta State to promote peace and rebuild
relationships among the ethnic groups in order to sustain peace in the area.
Consequently, CEPEJ decided to handover the trained community
stakeholders to P4P through the formation of Benin River/Warri North LGA
For his part, the Partner for Peace (P4P) Programs Officer, Amb.
Prince E. Daki-Prebor, took charge of orientating the new network members on
how P4P operates, the essence of the network chapter, as well as rules and
regulations. He said being P4P members, their responsibility is to promote
sustainable peace in Gbokoda and Opuma communities.
Meanwhile, Chief Africas Lawal, Partners 4 Peace Network Coordinator, commended the Center for Peace & Environmental Justice for the successful training in the two communities. He therefore, implored the members of the Network to walk as a team, stressing that peace is the root of development.
He then inaugurated and constituted the Exco of the network
comprising two co-coordinators selected from both communities, the Secretary,
PRO/Documentation, Financial Secretary and Treasurer.
