At 10.56am, the Acting General Manager of Delta Broadcasting Service, DBS Warri, Pastor Malcolm Oteri said the opening prayer, followed by introduction of those present. MS Rita Ehimen introduced the CEPEJ team, while Miss Becky Ebojoh introduced the DBS team.
The DBS Warri Acting General Manager, Pastor Malcolm Oteri thanked the Board of Trustees, Management and Staff of CEPEJ for sending him congratulatory messages on his appointment, and for identifying with the Station. He said the visit was for his team to seek the support of CEPEJ in terms of facilities to help DBS Warri go fully digital, so as to change the negative perception of the public about the Station.
While pointing out that Government’s support alone was not enough for the organization to grow, the DBS Warri Acting General Manager solicited the assistance of private and corporate individuals, including NGOs such as CEPEJ to improve on its services.
He commended CEPEJ for its advocacy efforts on peacebuilding and sustainable environment, and called for a synergy between CEPEJ and the broadcast station for the benefit of Deltans. He thereafter presented a request letter to CEPEJ’s National Coordinator, Comrade Sheriff Mulade for consideration
Responding, the NGO’s Chairman, Board of Trustees, Dr. Godwin Orhadahwe spoke on CEPEJ’s origin, structure and activities. He said the NGO believes in team work towards ensuring peace and development in Nigeria and indeed the African continent, in line with its Pan African philosophy.
Dr. Orhadahwe said the NGO’s permanent site in Ugolo Okpe near Osubi Airport is a complex comprising Africa for Peace Center, CEPEJ Institute for African Development, Heritage International Academy and ancillary services. He announced that the Center has branches in Lagos, Abuja, Ghana and the USA.
While commending the Acting GM of DBS Warri for pushing for full digital broadcasting, CEPEJ’s BOT Chairman expressed confidence in the ability of the new Management of DBS Warri to deliver on its mandate. He however recommended that the Station should go into full satellite broadcasting rather than hooking up to Startime from the fringe.
He said the Board and Management of CEPEJ would look into the DBS’s request for assistance and get back to the Acting GM shortly. While saying the Management of DBS Warri could use the Center’s conference halls for seminars, training and other official engagements, the BOT Chairman introduced CEPEJ’s annual newsletter, brochures and academic Journal to the DBS team, adding that more information could be accessed on CEPEJ’s website.
For his part, the National Coordinator of CEPEJ, Comrade Sheriff Mulade thanked the new Management of Delta Broadcasting Service Warri for visiting the NGO and congratulated Pastor Malcolm Oteri on his appointment as the Acting General Manager.
Comrade Mulade asked both organizations to look at areas where they could work together for the benefit of Deltans, noting that CEPEJ has great plans for Africa. He said he was pleased to receive the DBS team, and expressed the hope that CEPEJ and DBS would partner towards producing and airing a programme to be titled “Okowa for Clean Delta.” He said two major and important programmes to CEPEJ are the World Environment Day and World Peace Day celebrations.
The National Coordinator also used the medium to invite Delta Broadcasting Service Warri to CEPEJ’s 2919 annual conference which is likely to hold in Kaduna or Abuja in November. He appreciated the DBS Warri team for the courtesy visit and presented copies of CEPEJ’s Journal, Newsletter, Calendar and, Conference brochures to the Acting GM of DBS Warri.
